Green Procurement
1. How is your department planning to meet the objectives of the Policy on Green Procurement?
The major work planned or underway to meet the requirements of the policy include
  • using the purchasing instruments created through Public Works and Government Services Canada's commodity management initiative, as the most important mechanism for reducing the environmental footprint related to our purchases. Environment Canada is actively working with PWGSC to integrate environmental specifications into commodity management;
  • moving towards planned whole-of-department procurement that integrates environmental considerations;
  • integrating environmental performance considerations as one of the guiding principles in the new model for capital planning in the Department-Integrated Investment Planning; and
  • setting green procurement targets in three areas where Environment Canada's work could better inform government-wide purchasing.
