2023 Student Experience Survey Results for the Public Service (PS) by Question 21. From the list below, please select the field of study that most closely matches your current field of study. (Mark one only)

The results of the 2023 Student Experience Survey are presented according to the numerical order of questions, grouped by section theme as they appeared in the questionnaire. Results are not shown when there is no historical comparison, or when there is an insufficient number of responses.

Note: Due to rounding, percentages may not add to 100. The results have been grouped by summing the responses to the two most positive or two least negative answers and summing the responses to the two least positive or two most negative answers in the response scale. These grouped responses, Most positive/Least negative answers and Least positive/Most negative answers, are calculated by removing the "Don't know" and "Not applicable" responses from the total responses.

Onboarding and orientation

Onboarding is the process of integrating new employees into the workplace, beginning with the acceptance of the initial job offer and continuing through the first weeks or months of employment. Onboarding includes training, mentoring and providing all pertinent information on internal policies, work processes and organizational culture.

Orientation is a critical component of the onboarding process and typically includes tangible learning activities, including courses and other activities that outline a department’s security policies, procedures, information systems, health and safety procedures, and welcoming events.

5. Please indicate the extent to which you are satisfied or dissatisfied with each of the following aspects of your onboarding and orientation experience. b. The welcome I received from my supervisor/manager (either virtually or in person).

Accommodations

The duty to accommodate refers to the employer’s obligation to eliminate disadvantages to employees, prospective employees or clients that result from a rule, practice or barrier that has or that may have an adverse impact on individuals or groups protected under the Canadian Human Rights Act or identified as a designated group under the Employment Equity Act. It applies to all grounds of discrimination covered by the Canadian Human Rights Act: race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy and childbirth), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics (including a requirement to undergo a genetic test, or disclose the results of a genetic test), disability or conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted or in respect of which a record suspension has been ordered. Employers must provide accommodation up to the point of undue hardship, taking into account essential job requirements. For more information, please visit Directive on the Duty to Accommodate.

Please note that the questions about accommodation do not apply to employees who asked for office equipment to work remotely, unless their requests pertain to specific accommodation measures that help to reduce barriers to work, as per the Canadian Human Rights Act.
