What kind of work would I do?

Financial management and internal audit are two separate fields. Both are forging new directions in the federal public service and figure more prominently in how the government runs its business.

• Financial management

  Financial officers are increasingly called upon to assist senior managers with strategic planning and expert advice in a variety of situations. As a qualified financial officer, you’ll be able to bring your creativity and analytical and communications skills to bear on any number of areas. These can range from budgeting, systems development, and accounting to financial policy, costing, and risk assessment.

• Internal auditing

  If you're a critical thinker and excel with people, then this could be the career choice for you! As a qualified internal auditor, you'll analyze a department's activities and propose solutions to help improve its performance. You'll provide real value-added input—working closely with management to ensure each area of the organization delivers on its mandate and objectives.
