bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act

Mandatory reporting on meeting the requirements of Section 7 of the Policy on Green Procurement, as applicable to departments and agencies bound by the Policy on Green Procurement but not the Federal Sustainable Development Act.

Strategies / Comments:

In accordance with the performance agreement drawn up by the NBC Secretary/Director General, a three-year sustainable development action plan has been prepared and will be implemented in 2011-2012 and subsequent years to maintain the environmental health and sustainability of the Park. The Secretary/Director General will oversee the implementation of the measures described below, which will have an important impact on the environment and on green procurement, in particular.

  • With a view to reducing the impacts of transportation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:

    • When planning the acquisition of new motor vehicles and motorized equipment, select vehicles and equipment that have the lowest environmental impact.
    • When replacing golf carts, purchase electric carts whenever possible.

With a view to ensuring responsible consumption:

    • Provide procurement personnel with training on responsible procurement.
    • Promote the purchase of biodegradable cleaning products that are safe for the environment and for human health.
    • Encourage the purchase of green renovation and construction materials, particularly with regard to paint, glue and solvent products.
    • Develop a responsible procurement guide to raise awareness among all buyers within the NBC.
    • Incorporate sustainable development criteria into calls for tender.
    • Provide NBC promotional material that meets sustainable development criteria.
    • Raise awareness among suppliers and subcontractors about responsible procurement.
    • Include in subcontracts responsible consumption criteria in accordance with the NBC's sustainable development policy.

An annual report will be prepared concerning the implementation of the sustainable development plan, and all managers will be required to report on their actions in this regard.
